Black and Blue

One of my best friends is about to take a life-changing leap. When talking to her about her decision, I heard the all-too-familiar tinge of trepidation in her voice, and I understood. Mixed in with excitement, there is always a bit of hesitation, a bit of doubt, a bit of uncertainty as to whether one is making the right decision. But, in the end, if we don't leap, what would be missed upon landing?

Can we go throughout our lives skirting around the edges because that is where we feel safest? In retrospect, looking back at the chances I've taken and those I've not, I realize that I'd rather be bruised and broken having jumped than endure the inevitable self-inflicted wounds that come with realizing I have allowed an opportunity to do something amazing, to fulfill a lifelong dream, pass me by.

Dear friend, search inside yourself and find the courage that is there, and may all your bruises be beautiful, just like you.
